Summary: Still learning

Comment: I bought Quicken since I wanted to be able to keep track of my expenses. I am taking a class to learn to use it. I am not yet proficient with it, but it seems promising.

Summary: Just changed banks, and got bumped by Quicken 2005
Date: 2005-09-08 - 2

Comment: Well, to follow up on most of the other reviews: Intuits choice, not to allow .qif imports for checking accounts anymore, it the big bummer. I didn't realize this issue, until I recently moved.
At my old location I was using Bank of America, and based on their suggestion I upgraded to the 2005 version. Since I just moved I had to switch banks, since Bank of America is not an option here. Yesterday I tried my first download with the new bank, and found out about the .qif issue.

Frankly, I find it outrageous that the "leader" in the personal financial software world more or less secretly takes these measures. Quicken is a great product to track your finances, but since my financial world pretty much tracks around my checking accounts, it is now - at least in its current version and with my current bank - useless to me. Good thing I got the 2005 version for free (that is, for buying a TurboTax product at some point), but it looks like I have to go back to the "old" 2003 version now.

Bottom line: Make sure your bank does provide online exchange formats (.ofx) and is listed as one of the banks that allows online service with this software, otherwise stay away from it. Suggested fixes like downloading into a cash account are futile in my eyes, I might as well then handtype the information from the banks online statements.

Comment: I did not order QB2005 but was sent it. I inquired and you responded with that I must have pushed the 1 click order, what ever that is. I asked for an explanation of what QB2005 was and got no answer, except I should return it for credit. I want to know what it the program QB2005 is, and is it part of the Quick books 2005?. Don't tell me I did the wrong thing when this is your error. Please explain.

Summary: Great product - I had no problems
Date: 2005-07-12 - 5

Comment: I was scared because of the reviews of the previous version and didn't upgrade to 2003 version and then the bad reviews of this version made me nervous that I would never upgrade. My old Quicken worked fine but it was extremely old and I wanted some of the more advanced interfaces with the banks. I finally decided to jump knowing I was probably steering into trouble.

I must say that my upgrade from an old version of Quicken went extremely smoothly! Not one hiccup. It converted several years of history files and all my current quicken files from QIF format.

My upgrade went smooth but I prepared. Mind you, I run Windows XP with latest drivers and am saavy with computer hardware and Operating Systems. I'm glad I didn't listen to the negative reviews in this case but to give them credit, there are numerous operating systems, hardware, drivers etc and sympatize with them for having problems -- so make sure you meet compatibility before you purchase and definitely back up your files before starting any upgrade. I did hear that the initial release of 2005 had some bugs on the CD and you had to go to the website to download some file but that's just rumour, but do look for the latest product in the stores (Amazon carries the good stuff -- I bought from here). I do give credit to Quicken for making a product that serves so many people on so many different computer systems for so many years.

I've been using the new 2005 now for several months -- No problems, I'm so glad I upgraded.

Bought from Amazon - they shipped fast! Great Service! Great Store!
