Average Customer Review: 3.0

Summary: seems fine but won't open my bank's downloads
Date: 2007-06-12 - 3

Comment: I haven't actually used it because that's what I wanted it to do. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to manually entering the data.

Summary: Okay...but could be better.
Date: 2002-02-08 - 3

Comment: I have owned this product for quite a while, and this piece of software is okay for the basic consumer who just wants to balance their checkbook. I have yet to explore the other features such as stocks and other stuff, etc. There are some major faults in this program. The program should have a link to TurboTax Deluxe, and the pertinent entries should be able to be communicated to TurboTax and vice versa. Additionally, the interface is a little primitive, even for Mac OS 9. Admittedly, Intuit has a general monopoly in the field of finances, especially for the Macintosh side, and unfortunately, the program does display these faults. There is relatively little attempt in the program to make it easier for Mac users (as Windows users), even despite the software patches. All in all, beggars can't be choosers...and for all its worth, this program is superior in what it does.

Summary: Shockingly bad
Date: 2001-07-10 - 1

Comment: I used Turbo Tax, so I didn't think my transition to Quicken 2001 would be so hard. It has been impossible! There's no walking you through entries like with Turbo Tax. If you don't know what the program wants when it asks for some obscure accounting term, you have to switch to a buggy pdf file for answers, and those answers are useless if you can find them. The program is buggy. There's no way to use anything other than M$ Explorer every time the program wants to take you to a browser. And as expensive as the program is, half of the buttons take you to pages that are trying to sell you more services that should be included. Why should I pay Intuit 10 bucks a month to pay my credit card bills? That service should be included, or be closer to the price of a stamp, which is all it costs now to mail in a check. I feel like I've been slimed.

Comment: An update: Intuit has come through with a full refund after my Quicken Deluxe 2001 for Macintosh failed to create any reports (see review below). So, my final review: Customer Service: 5 stars. Product Usefulness for me: 0 stars. Overall Rating: 3 stars.

Summary: Intuit makes good on rebate ... but serious problems remain
Date: 2001-06-27 - 2

Comment: I said I would update my posting if Intuit made good on their rebate offer, and now they have done so. I received a nice letter from Intuit saying they had seen my review at Amazon.com, and that I would be receiving a rebate shortly. The $20 check came today.

BUT -- I've run into some fatal errors in attempting to use my 2001 Deluxe for Macintosh. Essentially, I have been completely unable to produce any kind of a report whatsoever. As you can imagine, after entering months worth of data, being unable to analyze that data in any way leaves the program virtually worthless.

I spent many hours trying to track down the problem. Every time I tried to create a report, the program crashed, and I received a Type 1 error message. I added 128 MG of memory to my G3 (for a total of 160 MG), but still the program crashed. I downloaded the Quicken Deluxe for Macintosh Release 2 update and installed it. Still the program crashed.

If you call to try to speak with a real live person, Intuit will charge you $2.00 per minute. Refusing to throw good money after bad trying to fix their problem, I went to the Help files on the website again, and after several hours I found a Q&A explaining that an Error Type 1 may occur when attempting to create reports if you are using an HP DeskWriter printer driver, version 6.0.4.

Guess what? I've got an HP DeskWriter 6.0.4.

So I tried disabling the driver, but the program still crashed anyway. I finally gave up and spent an entire Saturday retyping in six months of data from my Macintosh into my old Quicken 6 for Windows. Now I'm using my old Quicken program, and I wish I'd never tried to upgrade.

Anyway, I'm giving them an extra star because they did finally come through with the rebate. Now we'll see whether they'll refund the rest of my money.
