Comment: This is without a doubt, the best GPS-handheld reference guide that you will find on the market. Great for the novice and the experienced users alike. Easy to read and understand chapters provides a wealth of useful information that can be applied immediately. I have several books covering the same topics, however, this is the only book I will ever need. Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed.

Comment: I've used GPS for mountain biking for over two years. This book was a real eye opener. Garmin should hire this guy to write their manuals. The book is full of great info. You should buy it just for the information on WAAS. The book turned me on to some really cool mapping software. If you are the least bit serious about GPS I think this book is indispensable. It even gives you some information on how to find cardinal directions without using GPS technology. Really great book.

Comment: Outdoor Navigation With GPS: Hiking, Geocaching, Canoeing, Kayaking, Fishing, Outdoor Photography, Backpacking, Mountain Biking Hinch's Outdoor Navigation with GPS is simply written and clear. It makes up for the dreadful documentation that comes with most, if not all, GPS units. I particularly liked his coverage of the use of the regular compass and adjusting for the deviation between true and magnetic North. This led me to purchase an inexpensive regular compass to use in conjunction with my GPS unit. Bottom line, I highly recommend Mr. Hinch's book.

Comment: Excellent book for me. I bought my first GPS for hiking and canoeing and this really helped me prepare for using my GPS in combination with maps. Lots of great bits of advice and quick and dirty instruction on GPS units, maps, compass navigation etc. Most importantly I learned that one uses a GPS in combination with maps. It does not replace them and you must teach yourself solid map reading skills and good old fashioned compass navigation. This book gives you a great overview as well as just enough detail to encourage you to learn as much as you can.
